A Brief History of Ogemaw Township Cemetery
The history of Ogemaw Township Cemetery dates back to 1885, when C.H. Plummer offered a lot to the Township for the construction of a non-denominational church, provided the Township agreed to purchase the remaining lots within the block to establish a public cemetery. This proposal laid the foundation for what would become Ogemaw Township Cemetery, creating a place that would serve the community for generations to come.
Just a few months later, in February 1886, the Township officially approved the purchase by authorizing payment through a series of orders, completing the acquisition of the property to be used as a cemetery. These historic records reflect the Township’s early commitment to providing a respectful and lasting place of remembrance for its residents.
